Today we heard the sad news of the passing Chris Gaffney front man for the Hacienda Brothers and friend of roots music everywhere. Chris was a wonderful, kind man and a superb musician. He will be sadly missed. In memoriam we're running an exclusive Artist Development Co-Op show with the Hacienda Brothers from the Living Room Series on Saturday the 19th of April at 4:00PM EST. The show was recorded last year on a trip to PA with Dan Penn. Big Kev and Fredo do the honors.
Co-founder of Hacienda Brothers dies
The OrangeCounty (Calif.) Register.
Gaffney, 58, died April 17 with his family at his side, reported the newspaper, located in the county where Gaffney cut his teeth on singing, songwriting and playing accordion and guitar.
Gaffney, who had played Phoenix with his band a handful of times the past few years, was in the process of undergoing chemotherapy.
Both Gaffney and his musical partner, guitarist Dave Gonzalez, have family ties to Tucson, and the Hacienda Brothers recorded extensively in the Old Pueblo. Their latest studio album is 2006's What's Wrong With Right. A new album, Arizona Motel, is due June 24.
Gaffney was recognized as one of the most soulful singers in the worlds of country and roots-rock music. He also delighted crowds with accordion solos during gigs. A veteran of Dave Alvin's Guilty Men and the Cold Hard Facts, Gaffney launched the Hacienda Brothers in 2005 with Gonzalez.
No details on a service for Gaffney were immediately available.
