Roll Call

Arlington 21 Gun Salute

The Morning "Roll Call"

Each Morning at 7 AM  I read the Department of Defense News Releases. I get that I have a personal attachment to them, but I also get from reading them, your listeners do too.  It's a very moving task to take on, I get calls every morning from listeners that thank me for remembering to do it. They ask, "Does it help you heal?" I just say "It hurts a whole lot to do it, but if I don't who will?"

It would be considered a PSA and it will change the tone of your station for about 15-30 mins.  My mother called and said, "I listen every morning, I hate when you do it because it makes me cry, but I can't help but tune it in every morning."  Here is a Link to the Wounded Warrior PSAs

I've enclosed the "Beds" I use and also a sample of me doing it. I don't do it well, but you will hear why it works. I usually have a panic attack in the middle of it , but I get through it.

I'm challenging you to try it; you will never feel the same after you do it once, especially when the phones light up and they are crying with you. If there ever was a time to make people aware of these soldiers deaths it's now.  With over 400,000 diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injuries, 250,000 diagnosed with PTSD and 43,000 wounded, now is the time to report the facts.  This isn’t about being patriotic or about “God” and Country, this is about the connection between you and your listeners who probably, if not their family,  know one of the families with their Dad, Son, Daughter in harm's way.   Keeping these kid’s names right out front of people with other things on their minds, might just be a way to turn it around.

Thank You

FRED

These are the Beds I use. "The Cadence" has a long music bed after the cadence because some days there are a lot of names to read. After the last name I play Taps and then play a couple songs related to the topic. I use "The Cadence" because in it it explains, the mentality it takes to strap on 60 lbs of body armor and walk outside the wire, but it also explains they know that it could end up badly so "Mama Mama don't cry for me" drives that point home.  I finish with TAPS, out of respect for their families, who now have a long journey to regain the joy in their lives.
